Summer Concert: ND Museum of Art: Tues. Aug. 30

I love the North Dakota Museum of Art. I’ve always enjoyed the museum as a visitor and as a volunteer. I enjoy frequenting the museum with friends, my spouse, by myself and most of all, visiting with my children.

We discovered this year how much we enjoy the Concert in the Garden Series, and what was the most enjoyable part was it was an inexpensive night out with our children. The kids dance along to the music or they play on the rock bench in the Southside of the Sculpture Garden. Delicious food by the Museum’s Chef, Justin Welsh, is provided for $5-$7 depending on what is on his menu. Glasses of wine or beer are also available at a suggested donation of $2. (I prefer the yummy root beer floats and my kids agree) Each year the museum commissions regional artists to create concert series prints. There will be limited edition concert series prints for sale by Bill Harbort and Dan Sharbano, of Minot; Punchgut Studios, of Fargo; and Kim Fink, of Grand Forks.

Our first concert we attended this summer was the Lucy Michelle & the Velvet Lapelles. It ended up being a rainy day, so the concert was moved indoors. Still, the event was lively and the music was top notch. Our girls were trying to control themselves, but still did some foot tapping and frolicking to the music. From that point on, I myself have not missed a concert.

It saddens me that the summer and series is coming to an end; the last concert is Tuesday, August 30th. The Museum will be hosting Hoots and Hellmouth as their featured band, and to open the show Formerly Fiona will begin at 6 pm. I’ve kept up to date with the NDMOA’s events by liking them on Facebook… which is great because they’ve shared YouTube videos of all their performers. I checked out Hoots & Hellmouth, and I believe this will be a pretty exciting performance.
So regardless how your day is on Tuesday, please pack up your kids, a blanket or chair, and join us at the NDMOA for the Concert in the Garden series. Don’t worry about food if running late! Outside food and beverage is not allowed, but bottled water is not a problem. Advance tickets: $5 At the door: $8 Free admission for children twelve and younger. To purchase tickets call 701-777-4195. The NDMOA is located on the campus of UND.
