Rollin’ on the River Aug. 26 & Aug. 27

The first in-line skating marathon in Grand Forks is taking place this weekend! Volunteers are still needed and there are a lot of events happening for  “Rollin’ on the River”.

 Friday, August 26, 2011
Inline Marathon Participants, family, friends and fans are encouraged to take part in the following Rollin’ Events scheduled in collaboration with Rollin’ on the River:

  • Keep the Ball Rollin’ Golf Tournament: 1:00pm start time
On Friday afternoon, August 26, a Golf Tournament benefitting the Perry Nakonechny Youth Sports Fund will be held at Kings Walk Golf Course.   Hockey and Golf were two of Perry Nakonechny’s biggest passions – seeing as how it’s summer, it’s only fitting that we squeeze in a little golf!  So grab your family and friends and hit the links for an afternoon of fun and relaxation in honor of a great cause.
  • Rockin’ Rollin’ Rally: 5:00pm start time
Following Keep the Ball Rollin’ Golf Tournament, the Rockin’ Rollin’ Rally will be held at Lincoln Drive Park.  Numerous events will take place and prizes will be given away throughout the night!  We will also be drumming up excitement for the main event the following morning – come on out, bring the whole family and enjoy!

This event is free and open to the public.  Registration is not required.  Where applicable, quantities are limited.

5K Family Fun Skate
If you want to enjoy skating in a relaxed, casual atmosphere and are looking for a way to involve the entire family – come out for the 5K Family Fun Skate!  The Greater Grand Forks Greenway is just yards away and we will have limited quantities of skates and helmets on hand to lend out.  We’ve also partnered with Safe Kids and some local skaters!  They will be on hand to instruct regarding proper use of safety gear and taking those important first strides so you can be sure to get off on the right foot.

Dinner
We will be serving BBQ and Chips. This event is free to all who attend the Rockin’ Rollin’ Rally – servings are limited to 1 per person and quantities are limited.

Race Packet Pickup
Skate Marathon registrants can also pick up their skate packets at this event until 8pm. Race packets can also be picked up the following morning at the Alerus Center starting at 6:30 am.

Neighborhood Rally Competition
Groups registered for the Neighborhood Rally Competition can pick up their Rally Sign ID at this event until 8pm.  All Neighborhood Rally Competition entrants must have a Rally Sign ID in their area/yard in order to be judged!

Inline Marathon: Saturday, August 27, 2011: 7:30am start time
Rollin’ on the River will be an inline skating marathon through the city streets of Grand Forks, ND.  Skaters with prior marathon experience as well as those who are at the level of an advanced novice should consider skating in the event.  The following divisions will be offered:  Professional Half Marathon, Recreational Full Marathon and Recreational Half Marathon.

Race packets can be picked up at the Rockin’ Rollin’ Rally in Lincoln Drive Park until 8pm on Friday, August 26th. Race packets can also be picked up the following morning at the Alerus Center starting at 6:30 am.
